A support request that someone can reproduce

Describe the smallest clear example of the problem.

“The plugin does not work” leaves a support person with almost no starting point. A useful request describes what you tried, what you expected and what happened instead. You do not need technical vocabulary if the sequence is clear.

Begin with one reproducible example. For instance: open the events page while logged out, select next month and observe that the list becomes empty even though published events exist. Include the affected page type and the approximate time if the problem is intermittent. Avoid mixing five unrelated issues into one message.

Record the exact plugin version, WordPress version and relevant theme information. A support team may request Site Health information, but review it before posting in a public forum. Share only what is needed and remove private paths, addresses, tokens or other sensitive details.

Separate observations from guesses

Say “the error appeared after the update” rather than “the update destroyed the database” unless you have evidence for the latter. Timing is useful information, but it is not proof of cause. Include any controlled checks already performed and their actual results so the support person does not have to repeat them blindly.

A support example states the context, action, expected list and observed empty result.
Explanatory diagramWritten steps explain the screenshot. Keep observations separate from assumptions about the cause. Open the image to see the full detail.
Read the diagram as text
  • Context: Open the events page while logged out.
  • Action: Select the next month using the calendar control.
  • Expected result: Published events for that month should remain visible.
  • Observed result: The list becomes empty; record the exact time and message if relevant.

Add exact versions and sanitized evidence; do not include credentials.

A screenshot can show layout or wording, but it should not replace written steps. Copy the exact error text when safe to do so. If a video is useful, keep it short and hide account details. Never publish administrator credentials in a ticket or forum message.

If support needs access, use an appropriate private channel and a separate, limited account when possible. Agree on the scope and remove access afterward. A staging copy with invented data can be preferable to giving someone unrestricted access to a live customer database.

Finish with the question you need answered: whether a setting is wrong, whether the behavior is a known limitation or what evidence would narrow the cause. A focused request makes a useful response more likely and leaves a readable record for the next person who encounters the same problem.
